Praise the Lord
for this new dawn. Sunday morning I walked to the church early in the morning
while it was still dark. I heard a rooster crow for the first time in a long
time. The rooster was announcing triumphantly the arrival of the new day. Alice
and I walked briskly last night while it was cloudy and lightly drizzling. As we
were getting home the clouds gave way to star studded sky, clear and glorious.
I was reading from
Isaiah 47:13-15 (King James Version), "Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy
counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators,
stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. Behold they
shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves
from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to
sit before it. Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast labored, even
thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none
shall save thee."
The late great American essayist, philosopher, and poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882), once said, "Hitch your wagon to a star." There are many who are hoodwinked by astrology. There are many who believe that their lives are guided, and even controlled, by the stars. However, using the stars to predict the future is contrary to the written word of God - One cannot believe in astrology and in Almighty God at the same time - for they are incompatible with each other! Only Almighty God can predict the future - for He is the Author and Creator of everything.
The New Living Translation (NLT), of Isaiah 47: 13-15, says: "You have more than enough advisers, astrologers, and stargazers. Let them stand up and save you from what the future holds. (v. 14) But they are useless as dried grass burning up in a fire. They cannot even save themselves! You will get no help from them at all. Their hearth is not a place to sit for warmth. (v. 15) And all your friends, those with whom you have done business since childhood, will slip away and disappear, unable to help."
Indeed our help comes from the Lord God Almighty! The Psalmist, David, tells us, in Psalm 124:8 (NLT): "Our help is from the Lord, who made the heavens and the earth." We need to put a stop to Christians asking each other what sign they were born under! That is part of the pagan religion of astrology - a false God - idol worship - the thing of horoscopes - and, it has no place in the life of a believer. It’s not about you and what sign you were born under; it is all about Him, who He is, what He has done, and what He will do! And Our Lord the Bright and Morning Star, holds the key to the future - not astrologers - not horoscopes - not fortune tellers - nor divinators, they are all false gods! In Daniel 2:27-28 (NLT), we are told that Daniel told King Nebuchadnezzar: "...There are no wise men, enchanters, magicians, or fortune-tellers, who can tell the king such things. (v. 28) But there is a God in Heaven who reveals secrets, and He has shown king Neuchadnezzar what will happen in the future..."
Let us not get caught up in birth signs and horoscopes;let us get caught up in Jesus, the Christ! Let us Look to Him for the answers we seek! He will not steer us wrong!" Our Lord Jesus declares, "Ask, and you will receive! Seek, and you will find! Knock, and it will be opened unto you!" The Future Is Not In The Stars!
