Brown's Daily Word 9-16-10

Good morning,
Praise the Lord for the fresh new day in which we can live, work, praise, and trust God to take care of the details. Autumn is upon us, and we can see the autumn colors begin to creep into our vistas day by day, and almost moment by moment. It is like a fire that begins to slowly consume the edges before it bursts into full flame.
We live in a world where hopelessness and despair get on the front page of the newspaper or in the central spot of the news shows every single day. We somehow get used to bad news. We would probably run out of things to talk about if the world was running smoothly, if people were getting along with each other, and if everyone had enough of the things they needed to live well, feed their families, and enjoy life. We cannot miss the events that are happening in our world. The secret is out: the world is an imperfect place. It is a place full of crisis and tragedy, full of anger and violence, full of despair and desperation. The world is, quite frankly, a mess. Our temptation is to begin putting our trust in the same people and things that the rest of the world trusts in. The world solves its problems through military actions, passing laws and resolutions, and putting its trust in its leaders to accomplish peace and bring stability. We have given this responsibility to mere people. We have learned to expect them to make the economy good, to prevent violence, to protect our families, to make us happy, to provide us with good jobs, and to make decisions about how we should conduct ourselves in the world.
In a very real sense, we have learned to trust our human leaders more than we trust God. Isaiah 31:1-3 reveals, “Alas for those who go down to Egypt for help and who rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord! Yet he too is wise and brings disaster; he does not call back his words, but will rise against the house of the evildoers, and against the helpers of those who work iniquity. The Egyptians are human, and not God; their horses are flesh, and not spirit”
There is only one God and He alone is in control of the universe. God alone holds the future in his hands. Because of this irrefutable, undeniable fact, while we look to our leaders for a little direction and encouragement for the things that concern us here, we must remember to put our full trust in our great and mighty God, the maker of heaven and earth, the one who created us, sustains us, and knows us better than we know ourselves. He alone gives us victorious life through our Lord Jesus Christ. Victorious life is rooted in an uncompromising faith in His mighty power. It is something accomplished in and through us because Jesus is alive in our hearts and so it gives Him all the credit and glory due his name for the visible results of his Holy Spirit at work in our hearts. This does not mean that we never face defeat, but that in the face of defeat we never stop trusting Jesus.
We need to live our lives as if Jesus is all we have. We need to be absolutely dependant on him in all things. He is our firm foundation and our sure refuge in the face of life’s storms. We used to sing that Jesus is all we need…now He is all that we have.
" See those people polishing their chariots,
and those others grooming their horses?
But we're making garlands for God our God.
The chariots will rust,
those horses pull up lame—
and we'll be on our feet, standing tall". Psalm 20:7 ( The Message)

"Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. " Psalm 20:7 (King James Version)

In Christ,

Brown
